Joan Miró
(Barcelona 1893 - Palma de Mallorca 1983)
Tras realizar su primera muestra individual en las Galerías Dalmau (1918) de tinte fauvista y cubista, marcha a París en 1919. Allí asiste a eventos dadaístas. En 1925 se introduce en el mundo surrealista parisino, interviene en sus actos y exhibe obras con ellos.
Sus principales fuentes de inspiración son el arte primitivo, lo popular y las configuraciones orgánicas. Abre con ello la vía del lirismo abstracto en la pintura del siglo XX. En los primeros años de la década de los 30, sufre una grave crisis creativa que le lleva a abandonar la pintura por el dibujo y el collage, comenzando la serie de las llamadas "construcciones" realizadas en tres dimensiones.
En 1940 regresa a España, y se refugia en Palma de Mallorca, donde continúa con su serie de constelaciones y consigue huir de la realidad y encontrar la libertad en las combinaciones que le sugieren el cielo y las estrellas. No será hasta los años 60 en que la cerámica ocupe la mayoría de su tiempo, y en los 70 comenzará su faceta como escultor.
